My work is largely inspired by 19th century landscape paintings of the Barbizon as well as those from New York and New England.
Also, I take great interest in the Carnival, Bacchanal and related imagery from the Renaissance up to the 20th century.
One is a respite from the cares of modern life, the other is a meditation upon the increasing destruction of mental and social order today.
The landscapes are my attempts to capture the natural world, the Carnival scenes are a somewhat Freudian lens applied to the internal conflict between sex and society in the most unnatural species: Homo Sapiens.
This is as far as I want to get to "pushing a narrative". I am much more interested in the viewer's reaction and interpretation.
